 Consulting giant Accenture, which has more than 600,000 employees and a variety of mental health benefits, has had particular success with an allied mental health program. Nearly 10,000 Accenture employees have volunteered for training so they can build "a community of support" for colleagues in need, said Tamarah Duperval-Brownlee, Accenture's chief health officer.

"This is not a substitute for what a healthcare provider can do, a therapist or whatever, but I really appreciate seeing you as a colleague, as a colleague sitting next to you, I recognize and you struggle," he said. it says. "With the right training, it's definitely a powerhouse that can be used in many organizations," he adds, including small businesses.

Other strategies Accenture has pursued in recent years include sharing stories and data about leaders in the organization who have faced mental health challenges, as well as helping people set boundaries and create new work models. All of these efforts, Duperval-Brownlee says, really start with a clear vision and intent from key leaders.
